The Savanna Train Car Project has been a
labor of love since 1984, when a dedicated
group felt that railroading was an important
part of Savanna's history and initiated steps
to preserve the train car for future
generations to enjoy. Through personal
loans, donations, bake sales, charity events,
pancake breakfasts and railroad days this
piece of Savanna's history has been saved.
The Savanna Train Car Museum was
established in 2006 and has accepted the
responsibility of preserving this valued
railroad car for future generations to
explore and gain a better understanding of
preserving history and to work towards
keeping this vision vitally alive.
We are confident the public will continue to
support this valued project through
donations and providing items for display in the Train Car. Follow this link to see a sample of the items in the museum.
The Train Car Museum includes a gift shop area featuring T-Shirts, caps, train sets, music, and various other railroad themed items. Click here to see some of the many items we have on display in the museum.
The primary mission of the Savanna Train
Car Museum Board is to preserve and interpret the
archaeologies and histories of all the railroad people
who lived and worked in Savanna after its inception
in the year 1829.
The secondary mission of the Board is to retain the
train car for the purpose of preserving railroad
artifacts of the surrounding area, in order to
complement the primary purpose and to offer a
more thorough understanding of the historical contributions of the people of this region. |
